A Letter From the (past) President

I trust all is well in your patch of Texas (or wherever you are). As you may be aware, myself and the Board had the task recently of recruiting and replacing a board positions due to vacancies from term limits and resignations. Our Treasurer, VP/Secretary and myself have “retired” from the Board. As discussed in our meetings, we wanted to be sure everything was left in good hands. SFA SP has been blessed through the years in having wonderful, enthusiastic and loyal park host volunteers. Current members and park staff included. It is also park host volunteers who will be the first 2 new board members! Mr. Andrew Hooper accepted the nomination and was voted as the new President of The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park and Minnie Regalado accepted the nomination and was voted as the new Treasurer.
As for me, my wife and I plan on staying on as members of the Friends Group and I will be continuing to show my passion for the park and the great outdoors of Texas through interpretive programming and volunteer coordination. I must say that serving the past 5 years has been more rewarding than I ever thought it would. Having the ability to get to know all of you and making lifelong friends while serving in the name of a great cause is priceless. We’ve seen many successes, weathered a few floods and even shed a tear or two with the passing of one of our own members.
I encourage each of you to support Andrew and Minnie as they continue build the group. They both are looking forward to getting their rigs set back up at the park. I know they have some cool things planned. If you have interest taking a board position now might be a good time to consider it.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for volunteer activities related to park restoration and other activities. I ain’t going away!
Happy Trails!
